Overview
As part of a recent trip to Italy, we ventured to Tuscany to explore wine country as well as to experience the Thermal Water of Saturnia. You will need a car as this outing is certainly off the beaten path. Luckily, both the Saturnia Thermal Baths and the parking are free. Naturally heated by volcanic activity, they smell of sulfur as the water is rich with that element.
The Pools
Each of the pools are milky white and are warm without being oppressively hot. It gets very crowded throughout the day so we recommend going early to have a more private, intimate experience. We went in the middle of the day and then returned early in the morning (before 6am) where we had the baths to ourselves. It’s totally self-service so there are no lifeguards or changing rooms so come wearing your swimsuit and bring a towel.
What To Bring
The entrance to the Thermal Baths are rocky so we recommend water shoes or waterproof sandals for traversing the baths. We also suggest bringing a waterproof bag for your valuables, like your phone and car keys. If you are going to visit during the day, sunscreen is a must. We recommend leaving your jewelry at home so it will not tarnish.

Very close by to the free Thermal Baths is the Terme di Saturnia, a luxury day spa and hotel where you can experience the thermal waters with multiple pools with loungers and an onsite restaurant.
