Altis Grand Hotel: A Luxury Oasis in the Heart of Lisbon

During our recent trip to Lisbon, we wanted a luxury hotel that was conveniently located within easy walking distance of many of the attractions. We selected the Altis Grand Hotel due to their location as well as the promised amenities.

The Altis Grand Hotel

We arrived very early in the morning and had arranged with the hotel to book the night prior so we could immediately check in and start with a quick nap. Check in was efficient and we were shown immediately to our room. Upon entering, there was a small bottle of port wine and two Pastel del Nata, a tart filled with a luscious egg cream (the signature treat of Lisbon) waiting for us. The room was comfortably cool and dark while we caught a quick nap to recharge and visit the city.

The treats awaiting us in our room.

Our beds

We chose the deluxe room and it was very comfortable. There was a little lobby when you enter.  There was a bathroom with shower, large sink and a separate room for the bidet and toilet.

The room had a small terrace with a view, the beds, a very large TV, and a small desk. Amenities included:

The sink and shower
Toilet and Bidet
The desk with electric kettle
  • Full HD LCD TV with digital guest service
  • Electric Kettle offering 3 teas
  • Work station
  • Blackout blinds curtains and sunshade
  • Signature amenities
  • Down duvets
  • Bed linen and Egyptian cotton linen
  • Mineral water
  • Wake up service/Alarm clock
  • Soundproof
  • Nespresso coffee machine with daily capsule offer
  • Dry-cleaning and laundry service (surcharge)
  • Minibar (extra cost)
  • Direct Telephone
  • Desk
  • Air conditioning
  • Free safe
  • Free Wi-Fi Internet
  • 24h room service
  • Bidet
  • Hairdryer
  • Magnifying mirror
  • Bathrobe
  • Slippers
  • Shower

The only downside was the WIFI.  It was weak and really only worked in the very early hours.  It definitely didn’t support our luxury nomad work from anywhere lifestyle.

The Garden Roof Bar (and DJ)

There are a number of hotel bars. We enjoyed the Garden Roof Bar, on the rooftop with views overlooking Lisbon and the nearby Botanical Gardens. They had a full cocktail bar as well as a resident DJ pumping out the tunes as we relaxed after a full day of sightseeing.

We also enjoyed their Bar S. Jorge, which had lovely views of the city of Lisbon, was a great choice to have an evening cocktail when the weather wasn’t quite nice enough for the rooftop bar.

Cocktails at Bar S. Jorge

One evening, we enjoyed dinner at the Rendez Vous Bistro while avoiding a rainy Lisbon evening.  The menu very clearly marked common allergens like lactose, gluten, egg, nuts, or if the dish was vegetarian. The menu was also bilingual with descriptions in both English and Portuguese.

Morning coffee and pastry

We also enjoyed coffees in the lobby bar while waiting on our private tour to Wine Country. It was a very comfortable wait enjoying our morning caffeine with a Pastel de Nata.

While they did have a lovely pool that we popped into to look at, a full fitness center, and very promising spa options our schedule was full and we didn’t partake in those options. Perhaps on our next trip back to Lisbon!
