If you’re heading to the Dominican Republic for a seven-day escape, you’re in for a treat. We recently had a relaxing stay at the Hilton, La Romana. Nestled along the pristine coastline of the Dominican Republic’s southeastern shore, the Hilton La Romana all-inclusive resort offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, sipping cocktails on the beach, or exploring the nearby dive sites, packing right is key to making the most of your stay. This packing list will ensure you’re ready for everything the Dominican Republic has to offer, from beach side fun, to diving and spa experiences, or channeling your inner kid at the attached water park!

Essentials
Let’s start with the basics:
- Passport & ID: Your passport is a must if you’re flying internationally, and we recommend making a copy in case of loss.
- eTicket Immigration Information: The Dominican Republic requires paperwork to enter and exit the country. The passport number and nationality must match what is provided on your passport so double-check it’s accurate.
- Travel Insurance: Highly recommended for peace of mind, especially if you plan to try out water sports or explore off-the-beaten-path areas.
- Money: Credit cards are widely accepted, but we recommend having some Dominican Pesos (DOP) or US dollars handy for tips.
- Travel Adapters: The Dominican Republic uses the same plugs as the US (Type A & B), so if you’re coming from Europe or other countries, an adapter is key.
- Prescription Medications: Bring enough to cover your entire stay, plus a few extra days’ just in case of travel delays.
- Transfers Paperwork: Bring any copies of the transfers with contact information for travel from the airport to the resort (and back).
Clothing
The Dominican Republic’s tropical climate means you’ll want to pack lightweight, breathable clothing.

- Lightweight Clothing: Think cotton or linen shirts, shorts, and dresses. These fabrics keep you cool during the hot days.
- Swimsuits: A couple of swimsuits for lounging on the beach or swimming in the pool. We recommend Including a cover-up or two for walking to and from the pool or beach.
- Evening Wear: We found this optional. If you enjoy dressing for dinner, feel free to pack a couple nice outfits. You will not feel out of place in shorts and a nice shirt.
- Undergarments: Make sure you have enough to last you the full seven days, but there is a laundry service for a fee if needed.
- Socks: Light cotton socks are great if you plan to do any walking tours or hiking, but you’ll mostly want to skip the socks and shoes and wear flip-flops or sandals.
- Hats: A wide-brimmed hat to shield you from the sun during daytime is a must.
- Flip-Flops, Water Shoes, or Sandals: Perfect for the beach and walking around in the heat. We had daily rain showers so having footwear that could get wet was a must.
- Comfortable Walking Shoes: If you plan to explore the cultural side of the Dominican Republic, such as hiking or city tours, be sure to include comfortable shoes.
- Light Sweater or Jacket: While it’s mostly warm, evenings can occasionally be cool or breezy. It can also be quite rainy, so a waterproof jacket can come in handy.
- Sunglasses: With the bright sun, you will need a pair or two. We also brought lens cleaner and a glass towel to keep them clean.
