With the Christmas holidays right around the corner, we set out to find the perfect luxury getaway to celebrate the season—a place where we could indulge in five-star pampering and soak in the festive spirit. Nestled in the heart of Washington, DC, The Jefferson Hotel seemed to fit the bill perfectly. Known for its timeless elegance, personalized service, and award-winning dining, The Jefferson proudly boasts its proximity to iconic landmarks like the White House, offering an unparalleled mix of luxury and history.

The Entrance: A Warm Welcome
Situated along bustling 16th Street, with a direct line toward the White House, The Jefferson’s understated entrance exudes charm. As we approached, staff members greeted us with genuine warmth, holding open the door and ushering us into the cozy yet sophisticated lobby. While modest in size compared to sprawling modern hotels, the lobby’s intimate design and refined decor set the tone for our stay: exclusive, welcoming, and full of character.

Check-In: Personalized and Elegant
Check-in at The Jefferson is a refreshing departure from the standard hotel counter experience. Seated at small, elegant desks, the staff provided a more intimate and personal interaction. After presenting our ID and payment, we were promptly handed our room keys. During this process, the bell staff efficiently whisked away our luggage and offered us cans of still water. We were given a quick tour of the hotel’s main areas, a thoughtful touch that made us feel at home even before stepping into our suite.
The Suite: A Haven of Comfort and Style
For our stay, we chose Room 603—a suite that struck the perfect balance between classic charm and modern convenience. The suite featured a separate living room and bedroom, each equipped with individual thermostats, allowing us to tailor the environment to our preferences. The marble-lined bathroom added another layer of comfort with its independent heater, creating the ideal trifecta: a cool sleeping area, a cozy living space for reading, and a toasty bathroom to combat the winter chill.
Touches of modern luxury included bedside USB charging ports, an iPad for the in-suite menu, a speaker for music, and intuitive table controls, seamlessly blending with the suite’s historic ambiance. The plush furnishings, warm lighting, and attention to detail made the room a sanctuary we were reluctant to leave.
The Library: A Hidden Gem
One of The Jefferson’s most enchanting features is its library—a tranquil retreat filled with an eclectic mix of old and new books. A gas fireplace casts a warm glow across the room, creating a serene ambiance perfect for unwinding. Whether enjoying a steaming cup of coffee in the morning or a well-crafted cocktail in the evening, this space felt like our own private study. The soft background music added to the charm, making it one of our favorite spots in the hotel.
The Gym: Compact Yet Functional
For those who prefer to stay active while traveling, The Jefferson offers a compact yet fully equipped gym. While not expansive, the modern equipment and clean, well-maintained space provided everything needed for a satisfying workout. It’s perfect for a quick morning session before heading out to explore the city.

The Location: Prime Access to DC
The Jefferson’s location is nothing short of ideal. Nestled near Scott Circle, it places you just six blocks from the White House and a short walk from the nearest Metro station. This central position makes it easy to explore Washington, DC’s rich history and vibrant neighborhoods. For those preferring door-to-door convenience, Lyfts, Ubers, and taxis are always readily available.
Dining and Amenities

While our stay was brief, The Jefferson’s reputation for fine dining and thoughtful amenities didn’t go unnoticed. The on-site restaurant, Plume, offers an exquisite culinary experience (perfect for a future visit), while their afternoon tea service and room service menus ensure guests are never far from a delicious meal. We did enjoy breakfast in the Greenhouse with their two eggs your style with a cappuccino to fuel up for a day of exploring the city.
Final Thoughts: A Perfect Holiday Escape
Our stay at The Jefferson was everything we hoped for: luxurious, intimate, and full of holiday cheer. From the personalized service at check-in to the cozy fireplace in the library, every detail contributed to an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re visiting Washington, DC for business, sightseeing, or a special occasion, The Jefferson offers a five-star experience in the heart of the nation’s capital.

We left feeling refreshed, pampered, and ready to embrace the season—and already dreaming of our next visit.
